Gathering in the Park
Once a year in February,
we have a bring-your-own-picnic gathering at Footscray Hill Park near
the Stanley Hammond statue of Henry Lawson (left).
The statue was commissionned by the Society and erected in February
1960. It was to be unveiled by Mrs. Bertha Jago, Henry Lawson's
daughter, but she was unable to attend. Her letter of apology was
published in the March 1960 edition of The Lawsonian.
The Gathering is a celebration of Henry's life with renditions of his works, performances by singers and other poetry and prose making it a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
WHERE?
Footscray Hill Park, Ballarat Road, Footscray
WHEN? Sunday 5 February 2012 from 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Bryan Kelleher Memorial Picnic Day
The Bryan Kelleher Memorial Picnic Day is conducted jointly with the Australian Natives' Association at the historic Box Cottage in Ormond. As well as reading and reciting of the works of Henry Lawson and others, there is a tour of the cottage during the afternoon.
